The minimum criteria for a camp to begin the OCA Membership process are that the camp:
The process, from submitting your Membership application to full accreditation, is the following (assuming you meet the criteria at each stage to advance to each next level):
If you are successful in becoming a fully Accredited Camp Member, your camp will then be visited every 4 years OR when there is a significant change in the camp ownership, site or program or if the Board determines that a visit is desirable.
By-Law Definition: Provisional Camp Members Provisional Camp Members shall be persons, firms, associations or corporations whose camp(s) is in the Province of Ontario which has not yet been accredited by the Association or from Provinces or Territories outside Ontario if the Camping Association of that Province or Territory is not federated with the C.C.A./A.C.C. or if that Province or Territory does not have a camping association, or Camp Members whose accreditation has been revoked following an inspection of their site and facilities; provided that such person, firm, association or corporation has:
i. operated a camp in the Province of Ontario, or in a Province or Territory outside of Ontario if the camping association of that Province or Territory is not federated with the C.C.A./A.C.C., or if that Province or Territory does not have a camping association, for at least one year;
ii. not been a Provisional Camp Member for 2 consecutive years; and
iii. been approved by the Board or who was a Camp Member whose accreditation has been revoked or suspended. For greater certainty a person, firm, association or corporation which has been a Provisional Camp Member for 2 years, shall at the end of the third year lose all rights of membership in the Association unless he becomes a Camp Member within such 2 year period. If a person so loses his right to membership in the Association he may after one year has elapsed from his ceasing to be a Provisional Camp Member reapply to become a Provisional Camp Member. A Provisional Camp Member shall not be entitled to vote at meetings of the Members.
By-Law Definition: Camp Members
Camp membership shall be open to any person, firm, association or corporation operating a camp within the Province of Ontario. In addition, camp membership shall be open to any person, firm, association or corporation operating a camp from Provinces or Territories outside Ontario if the Camping Association of that Province or Territory is not federated with the Canadian Camping Association/Association des Camps du Canada (the “C.C.A./A.C.C.”), or if that Province or Territory does not have a camping association. No application for camp membership shall be approved unless the applicant has successfully completed the Year-round Standards and the camp has been accredited by the Board. Each Camp Member shall be subject to a review at least once every 4 years by the Association’s Standards Committee (the “Standards Committee”).
