Bayview Glen is currently looking to hire outdoor specialists for the coming Summer of 2021. We are looking for individuals to engage our campers with creative, innovative, unique, and inclusive programming for children between the ages of 4 – 13 capitalizing on our amazing outdoor space that includes hiking trails, open fields, and a ravine. This position reports directly to the Camp Director.
Dates of Employment
Start Date: July 5th, 2021 (not including pre-camp training dates)
End Date: August 20th, 2021
Location: 85 Moatfield Dr, Toronto, ON M3B, Canada
Responsibilities and Duties
Creating daily schedules and weekly schedules for each age/cabin group participating.
Create daily activities that are time and age appropriate in the outdoors.
Create activities that will motivate campers to be outside (geocaching, orienteering, shelter building etc..)
Organize materials and supplies needed to facilitate the outdoor activities, with the help of administrative staff members.
Facilitate activities in a fun, calm, patient, and motivational way.
Taking camper attendance when arriving and before leaving.
Responsible for supervising campers while on-site with our camp program.
Ensure the safety and health of campers while on-site.
Ensuring all Covid-19 Safety protocols and Government regulations are being followed.
Communicate regularly with head staff member to ensure awareness of any physical, psychological, emotional and/or medical limitations of campers and/or staff that could affect their safety while on-site
Constantly re-vamping the daily/weekly schedule as needed based on the groups of campers participating.
Participate in all theme days as outlined by the camp schedule.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience in an Outdoor Education setting is an asset.
Standard First Aid Training and CPR- C or higher required (certified on or after September 2019).
Comfortable providing detailed and written incident/accident reports.
Preference given to those applicants with previous experience within a camp setting.
As a condition of employment, a current Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Check and First Aid certification will be required.

The Kinark Outdoor Center (KOC) facilitates a range of outdoor education, therapeutic recreation and experiential adventure programs designed to meet the specific needs of its diverse client population. Visiting groups include: children’s mental health centers, community living agencies, elementary and secondary schools, colleges, universities, and various organizations serving youth, adults and individuals with special needs. KOC also offers a diverse range of programming for children with an Autism Spectrum disorder including Family Camps, Family Respites and 5-day summer camp programs throughout July & August.
The Therapeutic Recreation Worker is a temporary position funded through the Canada Summer Jobs. The position will be focused on program design and quality improvements. The employee will design and organize a craft program to be COVID friendly and adhere to certain Infection Prevent and Control principles. The programs and facilitation of programs will be designed, samples created, and training prepared. In parallel the employee will work with a program supervisor to develop a virtual program for families with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Other duties as assigned may include incorporating our value of environmental appreciation into family scavenger hunts, nature programs, and the design of a Sensory Play room.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with KOC program.
Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with KOC program. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for all clients’ safety.
Design and create Arts and Crafts programming that adhere to Infection Prevention and Control Principles.
Assist in the creation of Virtual Programming for family programming.
Assist in facility preparation and equipment maintenance.
Ensure all agency record keeping requirements are fully maintained.
Qualifications:
Post-Secondary Education in Outdoor Education, Physical Education, Special Education, Therapeutic Recreation, Child and Youth Worker or a related field.
Therapeutic recreation student or recent graduate with experience working with special needs populations and designing inclusive programs in a recreation environment.
Current Standard First Aid/ Wilderness First Aid and CPR C are required.
Experience working in a child care setting (such as: residential care, camp, school system) with children ages 8 to 18 years old, an asset.
Work experience in swimming, canoeing, wilderness tripping, kayaking, crafts, drama environmental programing, and group games are an asset.
Self-directed is required as we will request a majority of work to be completed remotely.
Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening) and Pre-Employment Medical.
Candidates Bilingual in English and French will be given special consideration.

Job Summary:

Overview:
Camp Warwa has been providing unforgettable outdoor experiences for youth since 1980. We are a non-profit outdoor education center located 45 minutes west of Edmonton Alberta and provide extensive year-round programs as well as summer camps. We are known for our experience, extensive programs and our inspiring professional community.
During the spring, our clients consist mainly of school groups, as well as youth groups, Girl Guide, and Scout groups. In the summer we run summer camps with each session running from Monday – Friday for campers 7 – 16 years old. Currently, Camp Warwa is looking for outgoing, self-motivated, and professionally minded individuals 18 years and older to work as Outdoor Education Instructors.

Outdoor Education Instructors will be responsible for attending camp provided training to learn how to facilitate a wide range of camp programs that include: archery, fire building, canoeing, climbing wall, group challenge, orienteering, and more.
In the spring and fall seasons, Outdoor Education Instructors teach our programs and do not provide overnight supervision of campers. In the summer season, Outdoor Education Instructors work primarily as Counsellors. This role is a 24 hour a day job caring for and ensuring health and safety for a group of 8 campers with another Co-Counsellor.
In summer, Counsellors will lead an out-trip with their group. All age groups at Camp Warwa participate in out-trips. Counsellors will work with a variety of age groups throughout the summer season.
Job Requirements:
Standard First Aid and CPR-C
Criminal Reference Check and a Child Intervention Check
Willing to learn to lead recreational activities on the water, at heights, and in all types of weather conditions
18 years of age or older
Assets:
Child care experience

Program Facilitator
Adventureworks! Associates is hiring a pool of casual facilitators to deliver quality adventure programs to our school, youth, and community-focused clients. Program facilitators will work directly with our senior program management team to prepare, deliver, and debrief adventure experiences including day and overnight programs and front-country expeditions.
Responsibilities
- -Primary duties include facilitating team building, leadership, and community development programs for schools, youth, and community-focused organizations
- -Manage risk and provide effective leadership in a variety of outdoor and adventure activities such as low and high element challenge courses, rock climbing, group initiative tasks, evening activities, and outdoor living skills
- -Deliver programs at a variety of locations in Ontario including The Adventure Learning Center at Canterbury Hills (Ancaster), Crieff Hills Community (Puslinch), Norval Outdoor School (Georgetown), Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area (Milton), Hamilton and Halton Region schools, and more. Facilitators must have transportation means that allows them to arrive at the program delivery location.
- -Provide timely and accurate reporting on programming and adverse events
- -Assist with housekeeping and hospitality tasks as needed
- -Help ensure the client experience is positive
Certifications and Qualifications
- -University degree or college diploma (or actively enrolled)
- -Standard First Aid and CPR required. Wilderness Advanced First Aid or Wilderness First Responder preferred.
- -Level 1 Challenge Course Practitioner/ARCI (required), or Level 2 Challenge Course Practitioner/RCI (preferred) –this position provides opportunities to attend one of our certification courses if necessary
- -Current and clear criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector search (must be obtained prior to employment)
Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
- -Commitment to the mission and values of Adventureworks! Associates Inc.
- -An In Depth knowledge of facilitating programs and outdoor experiences with groups.
- -A deep “bag of tricks” of activities.
- -A sense of humour, playful spirit, compassion, creativity, and patience.
- -Experience teaching outdoor top-rope rock climbing and outdoor skills is preferred
- -Experience working with school, and adult learning groups is considered an asset
Dates
We are looking for part time casual staff for October 1st – December 20th 2020. There are no minimum hour guarantees for these positions. They will be as-needed.
- -These positions are based in Ontario – most programs are delivered at our primary locations in Ancaster, Ontario. Candidates must have their own transportation.
